Odisha finished second runners-up in the 5th Junior (U-18) National Rugby Sevens Championship, which was held at Punjab University in Chandigarh from 14 to 16 June 2019. West Bengal bagged a double by winning both the boys and girls titles.
In the boys event, Odisha lost to West Bengal in the semifinals 0-13. Earlier in the quarterfinals Odisha beat Delhi. Odisha girls bowed out in the quarterfinals, losing to Tamil Nadu. Manoj Barik and Dumuni Marndi led the Odisha boys and girls teams respectively.
